As summer heats up in Nevada County, so does the special film programming at our four local cinemas. When the high temperatures are stifling both you and your young ones and hanging out at the Yuba River (and our other bodies of water) is not on your list, consider spending an afternoon or evening in air-conditioned comfort at the movies.

Not surprisingly, with school out, most of this month’s special programming are family films, in some cases, perhaps, strictly for the young ‘uns. (No adult over eighteen admitted unless accompanied by a child.). Being a Gentleman of a Certain Age, and Without Children of My Own (except for a cat whom I can’t take anywhere), I’ve not seen most of them myself, but I’ll do my best to steer you right.

On Tuesday, July 2nd and Wednesday, July 3rd, at 10:00 a.m., Prime Cinema’s Del Oro in Grass Valley continues its summer family movie programming with Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie (2023). I’ve seen neither the TV show, nor the previous film and so cannot comment. However, Rotten Tomatoes indicates this one scored reasonably high with critics and audiences. Little kids will likely go for it, while parents can scroll through their social media accounts (quietly and unobtrusively, of course).
